UVa-JLab Light & Optics III Overview

The course is appropriate for physical science and high school physics teachers. No calculus is required. The light and optics activities include a kit which we provide and you supplement with low cost easily available materials from home and hardware stores. The material is selected so that the teacher will be able to use these activities in their own classroom that are consistent with Virginia SOLS. Teachers can earn 3 graduate credits after completing all requirements of the course. Each Lab consists of several activities with data taking and several questions to answer. Labs will be submitted, graded, and returned. The activities are designed to take a teacher from the very basics of light and optics such as light rays and shadows, mirrors and lenses, and to interference and diffraction. Videos of the instructor conducting selected activities are available to assist the in-service teachers in the workshop and online.
